Is Elegxo AI free to use?

Elegxo AI offers several free browser tools, including the Metadata Remover, PDF-to-Markdown Converter, Folder Structure Visualizer, MCP Profiler, and local AI Chat. The Token Counter and AI Advisor require a free account. Elegxo Notepad is a one-time $0.25 purchase, while the Windows desktop software is a one-time $1 purchase.

Is there a private, password-protected notepad for Windows?

Yes. Elegxo Notepad is a one-time $0.25 purchase for Windows. It saves notes as AES-256-GCM encrypted .vault files protected by a password (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256, 600,000 iterations), and its main window is excluded from screen recording and screenshot tools. It also supports plain .txt editing with find, highlight, and persistent zoom.

How do I reduce Claude Code token usage?

For Claude Code specifically: keep your CLAUDE.md file under 200 lines, reference specific files or functions instead of whole repositories, run /compact at 60% context capacity (not 95%), disconnect unused MCP servers, and use Haiku for simple sub-agent tasks. Elegxo AI's MCP Profiler helps you measure exactly how much context each connected server is costing before it eats into Claude Code's context window.

Are my files private when using Elegxo AI?

It depends on which tool you use. The basic tools - Metadata Remover, PDF-to-Markdown Converter, Folder Structure Visualizer, MCP Profiler, Chat, and Token Counter - run entirely inside your browser and never contact any server. The Advanced tab inside the Dashboard sends files to a backend for more powerful processing, but that server is fully open-source and its code is publicly visible on GitHub. The AI Advisor chat communicates with an external AI API and logs questions to improve recommendations.

What is the best free tool to count AI tokens before sending a prompt?

Elegxo AI's Token Counter is a free, browser-based tool that counts tokens from any text - no upload, no tracking. Create a free account, paste your prompt, get the exact token count, and trim before you send to Claude, OpenAI, or any other AI API.

Does converting PDF to Markdown reduce token usage?

Yes. A raw 10-page PDF typically uses 5,000-8,000 tokens when sent to an AI. The same document converted to Markdown uses 2,000-3,500 tokens - a reduction of 30-60%. Elegxo AI's PDF-to-Markdown Converter runs in your browser with no file upload required.

What is the difference between Elegxo AI free browser tools and the desktop software?

The free website offers five tools that require no account - Metadata Remover, PDF-to-Markdown Converter, Folder Structure Visualizer, MCP Profiler, and local AI Chat - plus a Token Counter and AI Advisor available with a free account. The desktop software is a separate one-time $1 purchase for Windows with 9 offline tools including PII Redaction, Audio Transcription, TOON Compression, and more.
